Hello, I’m Ron Edwards, a Service-Disabled Veteran (USMC) and the President & CEO of The Focus Group Ltd.; a family owned and operated small business. Since 2005, when we started our main division Focus Advertising Specialties, we have been committed to representing our core business principles; attention to detail, integrity and being of service.
These principles, our work ethic and our loyal clients allowed us to grow our business every year culminating in a staggering 50% growth in invoiced sales in the first six months of 2022!
I am the recipient of the 2020 SBA New Mexico Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year Award for my focus on Homeless Veterans. I am also a Co-founder of the Santa Fe Stand-down, launched in 2011.
The inspiration behind EMERGENCY-P®came from my personal experience with needing a portable urinal due to my Service related MS diagnoses in 2006. By 2017 it was becoming increasingly difficult to move around easily. I became mobility impaired needing a cane, walker and wheelchair. Getting to the bathroom in a timely fashion with no accidents became persistent and stressful for me.I’d already begun keeping an improvised chamber pot next to my side of the bed.
We tested different containers and absorbent materials until we came up with an eco-friendly prototype that we could use anywhere. Then Covid hit and we were home-bound for quite a few months as we gained more information about the pandemic. Since there was no vaccine protection against Covid at this time and, although we wore masks, my wife and I were not risking going into ANY building at all. This posed a huge problem in regards to having to use the bathroom.
This was a perfect opportunity to test our EMERGENCY-P® prototype!! Much to my relief, I was able to find a discreet area off the road in town, open the passenger door and back door to completely block the view and use my prototype.Whew! Emergency and embarrassment averted! My wife, Kathryn, was so grateful that she could use it discreetly also by standing up and not having to crouch down.
I began to think of how I could help other folks that had the same or similar issues I was having and arrived at the EMERGENCY-P®solution!
I, along with my wife Kathryn, Vice President & COO and our son River, CMO decided to design and manufacture a custom product with the smallest possible carbon footprint. Incorporating those core principles into our recent division Environmentally Sane Solutions with our new endeavor EMERGENCY-P®allowed us to create a urinal container composed of #1 PET recyclable plastic material, and the following biodegradable items consisting of; urine collecting plastic bags, plant-based absorbent discs, bamboo tissues and a custom blend of essential oils.
Our custom container is wide enough for women to use comfortably while standing and without the need for a funnel! The handle design makes it easy to hold, and is secure with a screw-top lid. The tissues are convenient and the EP Blend™ masks the smell of urine. Our sleek design and innovative handle that holds the essential oil bottle has earned the three of us a Joint Design Patent Holder certification!
